Q: How do I join the Zoo?

A: There are four basic ways to join:

• Online this website.

• Credit Card by phone: (325) 676-6451 *We accept Visa/MC/Discover

• By mail: Abilene Zoo, Attn: Membership, 2070 Zoo Lane, Abilene, TX 79602 – make check payable to Abilene ZOOlogical Society.

• In person: memberships can be purchased in the Gift Shop located at the main Zoo entrance.

Q: When will I get my membership card?

A: Your membership card should arrive within approximately 2-4 weeks from time of purchase. If you mail your payment, please allow additional time for processing. All membership cards will be mailed directly to the member.

If you are purchasing a Gift Membership, please specify if you want the membership card mailed to you, the gift donor, to give personally. Otherwise the membership card will be mailed to the address of the primary cardholder.

Q. Must I show my card at the gate?

A. Yes. To take advantage of free entry, always bring your card with you when you visit the zoo. It slows down the busy line at the gate for staff to look up memberships in the system, so be courteous and have your card handy.

Q: May I visit the Zoo before I get my card?

A: Sure! Just bring your photo ID and your membership receipt, or a printed copy of the email confirmation if you purchased online and stop by the Gift Shop to verify your purchase.

Q: After I buy my membership, when will it expire?

A: All memberships expire the following year on the last day of the month in which they are purchased in. All memberships will have at least 12 months to enjoy the Zoo year-round.

Q: How do I replace an additional, lost, stolen, or damaged card?

A: There is a $5.00 processing fee that can either be paid by phone, mail, or in person at the Gift Shop.

Q: May I lend my membership card to a friend or family member:

A: Your membership card is NOT transferable and may only be used for the category and named members listed on the card. To avoid delays at admissions, know WHO is covered on your membership card. Notify the membership office of any address or name change.

Q: Why do I have to show a photo ID each time I visit?

A: You must present your membership card along with an additional form of identification at admissions upon EACH visit to the Zoo. This helps to keep our membership and admission costs down and to keep our admission gate running smoothly! Also, as a non-profit organization that relies heavily on membership and attendance for support, we must prevent misuse of our membership cards. We also want to protect our members should their cards be lost or stolen. We try hard to keep our membership prices affordable.

Q: Does my membership include free guest passes?

A: Each membership package includes complimentary guest passes. Guest passes are included with your membership package and are not replaceable if lost or stolen.

Q: How many membership cards will I receive with my membership?

A: You will receive one membership card . You may purchase additional duplicate cards for $5/each:

Q: How may I change my mailing address, email address or any other personal information?

A: You may change/update your personal information by:

• Visiting the Gift Shop in person.

• Calling the Membership Department at (325) 676-6451 or the Gift Shop (325) 437-4683.

• Sending an email to Please include your old and new address.

Q: Do I lose any time on my membership if I renew early?

A: No, you do not lose any time on your membership. For example, if your membership expires April 30, 2014 and you renew in March, your new expiration date will be April 30, 2015.

Q: May I put my membership on hold?

A: No, memberships become active immediately upon purchase and cannot be suspended.

Q: Is my membership good at other zoos? Is my membership from another zoo good at the Abilene Zoo?

A: Yes, your membership card is very valuable as it is accepted at more than 150 other zoos, aquariums, and institutions nationwide. A great majority of these organizations offer you 50% off their regular admission prices. In order to be granted this privilege, you must have your valid Abilene Zoo membership card and a second form of identification. Important Note: Zoo databases are NOT linked, and each zoo maintains its own membership list. Other zoos will NOT be able to verify your Abilene Zoo membership. So don’t be disappointed, be prepared with the correct materials. Please call the zoo or aquarium you plan to attend BEFORE you visit to confirm details and restrictions! Q: May I use my Abilene Zoo membership when I come with a group such as my child’s field trip?

A: No, Zoo memberships are not allowed to be used for group admissions. If you or your child is part of a pre-paid organized group field trip then you cannot use your membership to enter the Zoo. If you are not an assigned chaperone with your child’s group, but want to accompany your child, you may use your Zoo membership apart from the group. Your child must enter with the school group or field trip.

Q: Do you offer a discount for Active Military?

A: Yes, we offer a $5 discount on any membership level for Active Military. If you qualify for military discount and are purchasing a Gift Membership for someone, the gift recipient will receive the discount ONLY if they themselves qualify for the military discount. We also offer a $5 discount on any membership level for seniors (age 60 and over).
