At the Abilene Zoo, we make it our goal to provide the public with a rich educational and recreational experience. We do this by having various programs available throughout the year to the public, as well as area schools and organizations. Such opportunities include educational programs for schools and organizations, zoo tours, weekend programs for the public, monthly educational programs for preschoolers, the Zoo Teen program, and zoo camps. The Education Department Mission Statement and goals are as follows:
Education Department Mission Statement
To foster an appreciation and understanding of natural environments and their conservation by providing educational and entertaining opportunities
Education Department Goal
The ultimate goal of the Abilene Zoo’s Education Department is to be the environmental resource of the Big Country.
We are always looking for adult that are willing to help. See the volunteer page for more information.
Program Scheduling Protocol
There are two types of educational programs available: programs on zoo grounds and outreach programs. Programs are scheduled on a first come, first serve basis, and need to be scheduled two weeks in advance, in order to ensure program time and date.
Programs on Zoo Grounds
Are held in the Education Building. Groups need to be at the front of the zoo 5-10 minutes before the start time of the program.
See our Zoo to You page for more information.
