Abilene’s first zoo opened in 1919, where it was located at Fair Park. In 2016, the zoo celebrated 50 fun years at our current location in Nelson Park! Each year more than 250,000 people discover the wonderful world of wildlife at the Abilene Zoo.

The zoo’s Education Department provides educational programs, summer camps, weekend programs, tours, pre-school classes, and special events year-round. The Zoo also has many ways to volunteer, such as zoo teens.  School groups are welcome, as well as birthday parties!

Mission Statement: The Abilene Zoo is a place of learning and adventure, where families make memories, share the joy of discovery and become inspired to preserve wildlife.
