Abilene Zoo

Volunteering

Volunteers are a very important part of any zoo, and this fact is also true of the Abilene Zoo. There are some volunteer opportunities to fit a variety of interests.

Adult Volunteers
We have several opportunities available for those 18 and older who are looking for a different type of volunteer activity.

Horticulture: If you like gardening, pruning, planting, and watering and want to see our grounds become even more beautiful, become a Project Green Volunteer. For more information contact Zoo Horticulturist Jon Sharp at  Jonathan.sharp@abilenetx.com or at 325.437.4689

Special Events:  Occasionally we need volunteers for special activities.  If you are just looking to volunteer for special events - please let us know!

Education Volunteers:  These are trained Education volunteers who assist the education department in presenting programs and educating our guests.

Internships: There are three types of internships opportunities available: Animal Care, Behavioral, and Education.

If you are interested in helping with special events, becoming an education volunteer or interning at the zoo, please contact Joy Harsh at joy.harsh@abilenetx.com. Or see the volunteer page for more information and applications.

Teen Volunteers

Zoo Teens volunteer during the summer with our Education and Animal Care staff. Zoo Teen are students entering 8th grade and above. Applications are available February through March! See our Zoo Teen page for information.
