World Rhino Day is dedicated to raising awareness about all five rhino species and the global efforts to protect them. Since its inception in 2011, this special day has been celebrated on September 22nd by rhino experts and conservationists worldwide.

Join us on Saturday, September 20st to celebrate World Rhino Day with one-of-a-kind experiences,
including: Story time with a side of breakfast, Book signing with Uhuru, an ornament craft station, face painting, pop up tours, painting a canvas for conservation, rhino keeper chats and rhino enrichment.

9:00 - 9:45 AM

Kick off World Rhino Day with a magical morning! Enjoy a breakfast of pancakes, fruit, juice and coffee for the adults. After breakfast, children will enjoy a reading of “Curious George Visits the Zoo”.

$15 per person

9:45 - 10:15 AM

After story time, get creative alongside Uhuru, the southern black rhino, by making unique rhino skin prints and colorful paintings inside your own copy of the book “Curious George Visits the Zoo”. Limited to 50 books!

$25 per book

pAINTING FOR CONSERVATION

10:00 AM - 11:00 am
2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Join Abilene Zoo’s zookeeper and artist Sydney for a guided rhino painting class!
Each participant will create a custom rhino canvas to take home, with all supplies included. Ages 5+ are welcome, and children must be accompanied by an adult. Space is limited to 20 spots per session, so register early to secure your place in this creative conservation experience!

$20 per person

11:30 - 12:30 AM

Add some rhino sparkle to your holiday season!
For just $5, you can decorate your very own wooden rhino Christmas ornament using paints, gems, googly eyes, and more. Ornaments are limited, create yours before they’re gone.

$5 per ornament

pop up tours!

11:00 - 11:30 AM & 12:30 - 1:00 pm

Keep an eye on the pop-up tours by the rhino habitat! 

You can feed Uhuru a snack and get a photo with him.

RHINO KEEPER CHAT + WATERMELON!

1:00 PM

Join us at the rhino habitat for a special talk with rhino keeper, Meredith, to learn fascinating facts about rhinos and enjoy watching Uhuru devour one of his favorite snacks, a delicious watermelon!

10:00 am - 1:30 pm

Join us at the rhino habitat and check out some rhino biofacts and all kinds of rhino conservation items painted by Uhuru! This includes cups, paintings, ornaments, and rhino splash zone t-shirts from the Giftshop.

 This event is included in all Zoo Membership levels
